UN Warns Israel And Palestine Heading ‘Towards A Full-Scale War’
As the conflict in Gaza Strip continues, the United Nations has warned that Israel and Palestine are on the verge of a "full-scale" war.
In recent weeks, violence in the area has risen as a result of attempts to expel six Arab families from a disputed neighborhood in favor of Jewish settlers. As a result, there have been violent demonstrations and clashes, as well as some of the most serious rocket attacks.
Since the escalation started, 35 Palestinians have been killed, including 12 children. As a result, there are growing fears around the world about the situation, which has seen Palestinians displaced and refugee camps and residential areas bombed.
The number of people injured has risen to 233 as of last night, May 11, according to Tor Wennesland, the UN Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process. ‘Quickly put out the flames. We're on the verge of a full-fledged war. Leaders on both sides must shoulder the burden of de-escalation,' he said.
Wennesland isn't the only one who wants the abuse in the area to stop. Amnesty International has urged Israel to take a step back. ‘Israel must not be permitted to continue its rampage against Palestinians who are simply defending their right to live and demonstrating against their forced displacement,' wrote Saleh Higazi, Middle East Deputy Director of the human rights charity.
