Hamas movement declared on Tuesday its commitment to organizing parliamentary and presidential elections.
Hazem Qasem, a spokesperson of Hamas movement, said in a statement "We call upon President Mahmoud Abbas to accept the initiative of the political parties as it provides an appropriate ground for carrying out parliamentary and presidential elections in parallel," commenting on a meeting between the Palestinian president and the head of the electoral commission.
A meeting between Palestinian president and the head of the electoral commission was held on Saturday 6th, October, during the meeting, Abbas was asked to prepare for parliamentary elections, to be followed by presidential elections after a few months.
Two weeks ago, an initiative was announced by eight Palestinian parties to end the internal political division and to implement with reconciliation between the main rivals, Fatah and Hamas movements.
Hamas accepted the initiative while Fatah did not officially respond to it.
Abbas in his speech in the UN General Assembly meeting last month assure on his commitment to hold general elections.
