At least one Palestinian was killed and 40 injured on Friday by Israeli soldiers’ gunfire during clashes with dozens of Palestinian demonstrators in eastern Gaza Strip, close to the border with Israel, medics said.

Ashraf al-Qedra, spokesman of the health ministry in Gaza told reporters that Allaa Hamdan, 28 and he was killed east of Jabalia in northern Gaza Strip, close to the border with Israel.

He added that 40 were injured, including 18 injured by live ammunition during the clashes that broke out on Friday afternoon between the Israeli soldiers and dozens of Palestinian demonstrators in eastern Gaza Strip, close to the border with Israel.

Since March 30 last year, Palestinian demonstrators have been carrying out weekly anti-Israel rallies and protests, better known as the Great March of Return and Breaking the Israeli Siege.

On Friday afternoon, hundreds of demonstrators gathered in the area east of the Gaza Strip, close to the border with Israel. They waved Palestinian flags, chanted anti-Israel slogans and threw stones at the soldiers stationed on the borders.

The soldiers fired tear gas and live ammunition at the demonstrators who approach the fence of the border after they burned tires and threw homemade percussion grenades at the soldiers.

Earlier on Friday, the Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza said in a press statement that since the start of the marches in late March last year, the Israeli army killed 313 Palestinians and wounded 19,000 others by live ammunition.

The marches are calling on Israel to end 13 years of a blockade that had been imposed on the Gaza Strip right after Islamic Hamas movement has violently seized control of the enclave.
