The novel was nominated for the best fantasy novel in Britain, and was adapted into a 1989 film directed by Marie Lamberti, which deals with the story of a doctor moving with his wife, son and cat, to live outside the city near a pet cemetery. The son dies in a traffic accident. The father decides to recover his son by burying him in the pet cemetery, after hearing from his neighbors, "that whoever is buried there goes back to life."
A new version of the film was also produced this year by Kevin Kulch and Dennis Widemeyer, and Jeff Buller's writing of the story of Matt Greenberg, starring Jason Clark, Amy Simmets and John Lithgow.
