A delegation from the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) led by President Mahmoud Abbas met an Egyptian security delegation, on Thursday, in Ramallah to discuss the situation in the Palestinian territories.

The Fatah delegation included members of the Movement's Central Committee Azzam al-Ahmad, Rawhi Fattouh, Hussein al-Sheikh and the head of the General Intelligence Service Majid Faraj.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian delegation included the Undersecretary of the General Intelligence Service, Major General Ayman Badia, Major General Ahmed Abdel Khaliq, and a number of the apparatus officers.

The meeting discussed developments  of the situation in Palestine in terms of Egyptian efforts to end Palestinian internal division and to strengthen national unity in the light of the challenges and risks facing the Palestinian cause and attempts to liquidate it.

In the same context, the difficulties facing the Palestinian Authority due to the seizure of clearing funds by Israel were discussed, in addition to policies and procedures of the occupation with regard to Jerusalem, as it discussed the continuous demolition of Palestinian houses and settlement expansion policy.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian delegation visit came after the visit of Head Palestinian Intelligence Services, Majed Farraj, to Cairo on Wednesday during his meeting with Egyptian Minister of Intelligence Abbas Kamel whereas both agreed to follow up the joint action with the parties involved in the issues discussed.

Relations between Fatah and Hamas deteriorated following the signing of an Egyptian-sponsored reconciliation deal in October 2017 as a result of the convoy bombing of former Palestinian Prime Minister Rami al-Hamdallah upon his arrival in Gaza in March last year.

Palestinians have been suffering from internal division since mid-2007 after Hamas seized control of the Gaza Strip after fighting with forces loyal to the Palestinian Authority.

The Egyptian security delegation is due to travel to the Gaza Strip after the end of their visit to Ramallah in order to meet the leadership of Hamas to discuss the file of reconciliation and truce with Israel.
