The Irish government has reiterated its request for international law and treaties to be applied to the circumstances of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons.

During a recent question-and-answer session in parliament, Foreign Minister Simon Coveney stated that Ireland has repeatedly reminded Israel of the applicability of international human rights and humanitarian law in relation to Palestinian prisoners, particularly obligations under the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Both Ireland and the European Union, according to Coveney, provide financial support to Israeli and Palestinian NGOs that work to raise awareness about prisoner abuse.
