A Palestinian prisoner from Tulkarem completed on Sunday 18 years in Israeli occupation jails for resisting the occupation, according to the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).

Head of PPS, Ibrahim al-Nimer stated in a press statement that  prisoner Sami Mahmoud Soboh, 47, was detained in 2003 after two years of being pursued by Israeli forces.

In 2000, he was shot by Israeli forces, causing him critical injuries to his leg, and to date, he still suffers from the long-term effects of the injury.

Soboh was interrogated for about 100 days after his detention in 2003, before being sentenced to 28 years in prison, during which time he was exposed to arbitrary punishment measures by the Israeli prison service, including denial of family visits.

Israeli  occupation holds about 4850 Palestinians in its prisons, including 43 women and 225 children. Approximately 540 are held as administrative detainees according to the Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs Commission.
