Release corpses of Palestinians
Coordinator of the National Campaign to Retrieve the Bodies of Martyrs Detained by Israeli occupation since 2015 ,Salwa Hammad, stated that efforts are intensifying to persuade Israeli occupation to release the bodies of Palestinians killed by its forces over the years and held in morgues or unmarked graves.
She stated in a press statement that there are 81 bodies held in morgues, in addition to 254 others of Palestinians killed since 1967 held in unmarked graves in what is known as “numbered” cemeteries in the north of Israel.
In light of the failure of the legal process to release the withheld bodies, Hammad added that additional international activities, as well as events and media campaigns, will be organized this year, particularly on the National Day for the Retrieval of the Bodies of Martyrs, which falls on August 27.
Israel occupation claimed it was withholding Palestinian bodies in order to use them as a bargaining point in future prisoner swaps with the Palestinians.
Families of those whose corpses have been withheld organize frequent rallies requesting that they be released so that they can be properly buried in their hometowns.
