Israeli occupation forces arrested at least 25 Palestinians in the occupied capital Jerusalem in an ongoing detention campaign that began last night (PPS) according to the Palestinian Prisoner's Society. Hundreds of Israeli soldiers raided the courtyards of Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque compound and assaulted innocent worshipers last night, leading to the new arrests.
On the final Friday of Ramadan, tens of thousands of worshipers crowded Islam's third holiest venue, and many remained to condemn Israeli plans to expel Palestinian families from their homes on land claimed by Jewish settlers in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
In recent days, Palestinians have held a series of sit-ins in the region, protesting Israeli orders for them to leave their homes. Israeli occupation forces have used skunk water, tear gas, rubber-coated bullets, and shock grenades to assault the sit-ins. A large number of Palestinians have been detained.
