West Bank uprising
Two Palestinians were shot and killed on Friday by Israeli occupation after they opened fire on a base in the occupied West Bank, the latest in a series of violent clashes in Jerusalem amid rising tensions.
Following a long legal fight with Israeli settlers, dozens of Palestinians in an east Jerusalem neighborhood face eviction, and Palestinian demonstrators have clashed with Israeli police in the city on a nightly basis since the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
The tensions have spread throughout the region, with Jordan warning Israel against taking any more "provocative" measures and Iran exploiting the sensitivity surrounding Jerusalem to incite violence. Three Palestinians opened fire on the base near Jenin in the northern West Bank, according to Israeli soldiers. In response, the Border Police and an Israeli soldier opened fire, killing two of the men and injuring a third, who was taken to the hospital.
