Today Saturday, Japanese and US authorities said a 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurred off Japan's northeast coast, but no tsunami warning was issued, and there were no immediate reports of damage.

According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake exploded at a depth of 47 kilometres in the Pacific Ocean off Ishinomaki, Miyaji prefecture, near the epicenter of a massive earthquake in 2011 that killed more than 18 thousand people.
