The head of state of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, issued a decree postponing the general elections called for in 15/1/2021.

The decree followed the Israeli occupation authorities' ban on the preparation and conduct of elections in occupied Jerusalem, and in the light of the decision of the expanded Palestinian leadership meeting, which included the Palestine Liberation Organization Executive Committee, the Fatah Central Committee, the Palestinian National Action faction leaders and national personalities.

Today, Friday, Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh decided that all officials who had resigned from ministries, public and private institutions, municipal councils and village councils for the purpose of standing for legislative elections would return to their posts after notification to the authorities responsible for them, effective next Monday, and that they would be at the head of their work as of the morning after the notification.
