Launch of International Conference on International Criminal Investigations
The work of the International Conference was launched on Monday, in Cairo, the Egyptian capital. Entitled "Strengthening Accountability and Criminal Accountability for War Crimes and Grave Violations....Palestine Model", organized by the Arab Organization for Human Rights and the Egyptian National Council for Human Rights, in cooperation with the independent human rights body "the Ombudsman's Office" and the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions.
The two-day conference discusses criminal jurisdiction and applied experiences in a number of files that have seen crimes similar to those committed in the context of the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories addressed; and to discuss opportunities and challenges associated with mechanisms to implement the Prosecutor's decision to initiate investigations, to explore ways to intensify efforts to support the Tribunal's investigations, and to expand the international coalition supporting accountability and accountability efforts.
The conference offers speeches by Foreign Minister Riad al-Maliki, Egyptian Minister for Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Abu Gheit and Secretary-General of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, as well as by the Chairman of the Arab Affairs Committee of the Egyptian House of Representatives.
Selected Arab experts on human rights and international humanitarian law, professors in public international law and criminal law, judges and representatives of human rights non-governmental organizations from several Arab States also participate in the conference.
The President of the National Council for Human Rights Mohamed Falaq, the President of the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions Essam Younis, the Director-General of the Independent Human Rights Commission of Palestine, Amar Doek, and the President of the Arab Human Rights Organization, Ala Shalbi are speaking at the conference.
