Gaza, March 19

The Islamic Hamas movement in Gaza on Friday condemned the Israeli army killing of a 45-year-old Palestinian near the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Hazem Qassem, Hamas spokesman said in a press statement “the Israeli occupation army killing of a Palestinian is a new Zionist crime and brutal terrorism that the occupation practices against our Palestinian people.

“The Zionist crimes will always be fuel for the revolution of our fighting people, which will not stop until the occupier leaves our entire Palestinian land,” Qassem said.

A 45-year-old Palestinian man was shot dead on Friday afternoon by Israeli soldiers’ gunfire in the village of Beit Dajan east of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, medics said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society told the official news agency WAFA that A’atef Hanaysha, 45 years old was shot in the head when Israeli soldiers dispersed the weekly anti-Israeli settlement demonstration in the village.

It said in a press statement that Hanaysha was critically wounded in the head by an Israeli army gunshot, adding that he died shortly after he arrived at Rafidia Hospital in Nablus.

Salim Abu Jeish, member of the committee to defend land in the village told reporters that an Israeli army force dispersed a demonstration in the village using live ammunition, rubber bullets and teargas canisters.

He added that dozens of Palestinians gathered after they finished Friday prayers on lands that are threatened to be confiscated for expanding Israeli settlement in the eastern part of the village.

“The Israeli soldiers fired gunshots and rubber bullets at the demonstrators to disperse them,” Abu Jeish said, adding that “one of the gunshots hot Hanaysha in the head.”

The Palestinians have been organizing weekly rallies and protests against the Israeli expansion of settlements in the West Bank and against the Israeli measures of home demolitions and confiscation of lands.

On Wednesday, Palestine warned Israel that its unilateral measures in the Palestinian territories would neither bring peace nor stability to anyone in the region.

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesman of the Palestinian presidency, said in a statement that Palestine condemns "the endless Israeli assaults against the Palestinian people," adding that these measures "won't bring peace to anyone."

“The Israeli measures undermine the two-state vision which is backed by the international community and will destroy any opportunity to make peace throughout talks based on the legal international resolutions,” he said.
