The Democratic Reformists within Fatah Movement DRFM condemned on Saturday the Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas’s decree on postponing the elections for the unions and associations for 6 months in the Palestinian Territories.

The DRFM said in a press statement that the decree is another new violation of the Palestinian basic law.

“The unfair decree also violates all values and principles of human rights and democracy,” the statement said.

It added that the decree “is an assault on the will of the members of public unions, corporations, and associations who agreed upon specific legal jurisdiction in relation to holding their general assembly meetings and electing their boards to run their unions and associations.”

The DRFM stressed that “this new aggression on the constitutional rights would undermine what had remained of the democratic system to run the society’s institutions and would have a negative impact on the Palestinian National Council (PNC) elections.”

The statement called for annulling the arbitrary decree as immediately as possible and instead prepare for holding  the elections on its agreed upon schedules.
