American actor and wrestling champion Dwayne Johnson, known as "The Rock" published unusual  picture of him on social media showing traces of cupping therapy.

What is cupping therapy?

Cupping originated in China and is a form of alternative therapy. Suction is created by putting cups on the skin. The suction can aid in the healing process by increasing blood flow.

Suction is also said to aid the movement of “qi” in the body, according to proponents.

Qi is a Chinese term that translates to "life force." Ge Hong, a prominent Taoist alchemist and herbalist, was said to be the first to use cupping. He existed from the year 281 to the year 341.

Many Taoists claim that cupping will allow the body's yin and yang, or negative and positive energies, to be balanced. The body's resistance to infections, as well as its ability to increase blood flow and relieve pain, are thought to be improved by restoring equilibrium between these two extremes.

Cupping improves blood flow in the region around the cups. This can help to reduce muscle tension, allowing for better overall blood flow and immune function. It can also aid in the formation of new connective tissues and blood vessels in the tissue.

Cupping is used to supplement medical treatment with a variety of diseases and conditions.
