US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, in a call with his counterpart to the Israeli occupation, Gabi Ashkenazi, affirmed Washington's support for the "two-state solution" principle.
According to a statement by the US State Department, on Tuesday, the two ministers discussed the US approach toward "a more secure, prosperous and peaceful future for Israelis, Palestinians and the Middle East."
The statement said that Blinken stressed "the Biden administration's conviction that the two-state solution is the best way to ensure a future for the occupation (as a Jewish and democratic state) living alongside a democratic Palestinian state."
They discussed regional security challenges and the importance of continuing cooperation to address these issues, according to the statement.
Last Wednesday, Biden made the first telephone conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, which dealt with various files, including the settlement files in the Middle East.
