The first 17 British COVID-19 mutation were discovered in Palestine on Thursday, Health Minister Mai Al Keela announced.
Al_Kila clarified in a press statement that 17 cases of the British type were discovered in the villages of Beit Surik, Bir Nabala, Al Jadira, Beit Hanina, Al Ram and Shuafat, all of them in the Jerusalem Governorate in the West Bank.
She added that, on the basis of samples taken from a variety of patients, a working group consisting of the Ministry of Health and the Arab American University carried out multiple experiments to identify the latest genetic mutation of the Coronavirus. Al-Keela confirmed that in some swabs obtained from the West Bank, the research team was able to detect the existence of a new Coronavirus genetic mutation.
Al-Keela announced that the requisite surveys and follow-up on patients and their health problems and follow-up on other cases, if any, would be performed by preventive medical teams.
